I worked and studied at the IQC lab during my Master's under Dr. Kazi Rajibul Islam who was a great mentor to me. I learned the fundamentals of quantum computing while working with cutting edge trapped ion simulators. It was a great learning experience!
My main tasks were to develop cooling solutions for these systems which can get really hot. Precise temperature control is required as the slightest variance in temperature can result in invalid test results.
One of my favorite projects was designing a modular cooling block for FLIR cameras. I ran extensive CFD analysis to determine the best design and validated it with physical testing.
It was really cool to see the research side of the university when most students are only ever exposed to the academic side.
